Hi Cathleen,
My line is Christopher, David C., John, George W. and Crawford Carver. I've been
working on my Carver's almost 30 yrs.Because I have lived a long way from NC I had to
do research by mail,LDS library & computer. My family knew very little about the family
of my gr.grandfather,Geo. W.Carver since he was orphaned when John died in the war &
mother died soon after.I got a computer in '99 & that's when it was confirmed
Chris. was David's father. If it weren't for online postings I may never have found
for sure.I compared and searched for more confirmation.A few people do put some info after
the name of the person on trees.I wish more did. It would be so helpful.
Because I've had a hard time finding info I guess I'm a stickler for telling
everything. Including the family story. Which can be all wrong, all true,or have a thread
of truth. I don't expect to find 100% accuracy. I sure don't have it.
You said the family lore said some branches came from north through PA. That's the
kind of thing I'm talking about. I haven't seen that mentioned. However, I do have
Chris. RW info that says that.
I understood the descendancy from John b. 1657 to Christopher b. 1756. That is the part
I'm questioning. I haven't seen anything that points to it. I would love for it to
be correct.Whoever FIRST listed Chris.b.1705 as Chris. b. 1756 father had to get it
somewhere.
In my earlier message when I said the Chresten listed on census as a child of Christopher
was his wife, I was mistaken. I should have said she was the wife of Joseph who was Chris.
son.
One story in my family says we aren't really Carver's...but Hannah's. I
haven't found it to be true & believe I have figured out where it came from. But
that's another reason for trying to prove my Carver relationship.
Please don't think I am upset with you. I have seen some really harsh messages from
SOME people about documetation. I just get frustrated when people just keep passing on
info & they have NO idea if it's true or where it came from. I have not added
anyone further back than Christopher b. 1756 to my own until I can find at least a shred
of truth to connect them.I will, however, make mention of what others think. I do have all
the Whisenhunt/Visinand family which is posted online.
I appreciate your reply and will continue to question and search for the answers. Stay
tuned. (-:
Dianne
