I have a Smith-Carver marriage in my line:
Ashsah Smith b. ca1790-1800 d/o Ebenezer Smith(Rev. War Vet) and Mary Gould of Cayuga Co.
NY; Ebenezer b. in Berk. Co. Ma.1751
Achsah married Salmon/Zalmon Carver, b. possibly in PA.
They were prob. married by 1828, as dau. Mary Ann born then in Syracuse, NY. They all
migrated to Mich. starting 1820's.
I'm looking for info for Jerome Carver, Lafayette Carver(there were two in Mich 1870
Census in Oakland Co. Both stage drivers, different ages, in different towns).
Need info for any Carver in NY connected to Smith. Especially with "odd" or rare
names.
Our family story: We descend from Jonathan Carver, who was related to the Mayflower
Carvers. There was a Jonathan Carver who came to Michigan ca.late 1700's and did some
mapping around the Great Lakes for a Military leader at Ft. Detroit. There was some kind
of controversy about this Carver not getting paid, as the Gov't. had not approved the
work ahead of time. Found this in a history of Michigan at the Oakland County Pioneer and
Historical Society research library, in Pontiac.
I have not connected to this Jonathan Carver, but would like to hear more of him. Or any
Jonathan.
