J. David Caruthers, Attorney, 52,
of North Huntingdon
died unexpectedly, Monday Oct. 11, 2010,
in Garrett County, Md.
He was born July 21, 1958, in Pittsburgh,
a son of the late Attorney William F. and Margaret (Blair) Caruthers.
A graduate of Norwin High School, Class of 1976, Washington & Jefferson College, Class
of 1980, where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and the University of
Pittsburgh School of Law, Class of 1983; Mr. Caruthers was a third generation attorney
with the firm started by his grandfather, Caruthers & Caruthers, P.C., of Greensburg,
practicing law with his brother and late father. He was a Westmoreland County public
defender and chief trial counsel and was a member of the Westmoreland County Bar
Association, the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and was the solicitor for Irwin
Borough Zoning and Hearing board. David was a member of the Church of the Immaculate
Conception, Irwin where he served as a lector.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time at Deep Creek Lake.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth A. (Meister) Caruthers; daughters, Margaret B.
"Maggie" Yakovac and her husband, Joel, of Columbus, Ohio and Anne M. Caruthers,
of Alexandria, Va.; his brother, William F. Caruthers, II and his wife, Donna, of North
Huntingdon; his sister, Ann C. Taylor and her husband, James, of Julian; sisters in law,
Jeanne Dyer, Peggy Logan, and Mary Stevens; brothers in law Pete, Joe and Andrew Meister;
also several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4
and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the William Snyder Funeral Home, 521 Main Street, Irwin,
724-863-1200,. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Church of the
Immaculate Conception. Those attending please go directly to the church. Interment will
follow in Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon. Those wishing may contribute to the Norwin
Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin, PA 15642.
