Hello all !! I have a few McCartys to add to the list. The postings about
McCartys in New Jersey and Pennsylvania peaked my interest, especially. I
have this very interesting little book called, Forgotten Towns of Southern
New Jersey and have enjoyed it immensely (purchased at my favorite 1/2 price
book store). The book talks about my Lee family and I couldn't help notice,
elsewhere, it talks about McCartysville, later named Harrisville, NJ.
>McCarty, being one of my husband's family surnames. As far as
genealogy is
concerned on the McCartys, following is what I know....maybe someone
out there
has something to add, or recognizes them as family !!
Earliest known McCarty line begins with:
John McCarty b. 1782 __________place unknown
m. Elizabeth __________, b. 1790, place unknown
John McCarty b. 1812
m. Mary (James) Brown b. 1806, Newry, Blair Co. PA
Children:
Elenora b. Feb. 17, 1835 (died in infancy)
Elizabeth Ann b. May 7, 1836
Prudence Ann b. March 9, 1837
Ellen Almira b. May 6, 1840
Martha b. 1842 (died in infancy)
Edward Victor b. July 11, 1844
John Henry b. Feb. 18, 1846
+ Catherine Cecelia b. Aug 18, 1849, Chest Springs,Cambria Co., PA,
near Altoona
m. John Alexander Mooney, Nov. 25, 1870, Cincinnati, OH
James Franklin b. March 21, 1852
Two Step Children:
Agnes Ann Brown b. Jan 3, 1828
George Benjamin Franklin Brown b.____1830
1860, the Mooney family lived in south Philadelphia PA, near Camden NJ where
John Alexander Mooney was born. Whether he met Catherine -- in Cambria
County, or whether he knew her from Camden NJ, I don't know. As the above
McCartys were PENNSYLVANIA, as early as 1812, It's safe to say that previous
to Blair County, PA, they came from somewhere else!!
Hope this helps someone -- or that someone can help me!! Thanks.
Jackie from Washington State
