There are so many Thomas Cartwrights and TX did not keep death certificates before 1903.
My gr-gr-grandfather Thomas b. 1805 NC, was in Polk Co., TN in 1830 Census, then 1850
Census of Sabine, Cherokee Co., TX at age 45 before moving to Edgewood, Van Zandt Co., TX
where he died, date unknown but he was in 1870 Census, not 1880 one. Firstborn son, Henry
Brown Cartwright, b. 5/30/1828, Polk Co., TN, m. Margaret Ann Whisenhunt, b. GA,
5/14/1857, VZ Co., d. 5/3/1911 at 12 days prior to 83rd BD of Pneumonia/Dr. Bronson.
Buried in Rock Hill Cemetery, Edgewood.
In the Pipkins Letters on
USGenWeb.com, a Mary Steward announced at a Monthly Meeting in
Pasquotank Co., NC on 3/1/1701 of intentions to wed Thomas Cartwright, also a Friend.
I've found a Thomas mentioned in early settlers of TX CD, one with middle initial of
P. which I assume must be for Peter. My Cartwrights were Methodists, and Henry Brown and
Margaret named their youngest son for her father, George, and Marion for her brother.
There is 7 yrs. missing in Thomas and Lucinda's children from David Crockett, 13, and
Fanny, 6, b. TN which leads me to think Thomas must be the early TX settler who came to
check out the territory. There was a father, John, and son, Matthew, Cartwright who were
among the early TX settlers.
I think they (Henry Brown) must have been in GA to marry Margaret. H.B. enlisted from
town of Mustang, VZ Co., for CSA.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?
