Beverly
I am descended from Thomas Peter Cartwright Jr (NOT the Methodist preacher) who went by
Peter, but an almost exact contemporary of his. Do you have any information on the
parents, place of birth, etc on your Peter Cartwright?

1. I started my CARTWRIGHT research about 45 years ago. My
great-grandmother was Temperance CARTWRIGHT from DeWitt Co., Illinois
and she married Mason DAVENPORT from the same place ca. 1865.
2, I am researching both DAVENPORT's and CARTWRIGHT's and any & all
names that relate to the CARTWRIGHT's.
3. I have been to Clinton, DeWitt Co., IL and was told that I looked
like a CARTWRIGHT that was principal of the high school. I never got
the name to see if we were related.
4. Several of our family are very interested in what I find. They
don't want to do the research, but am interested when I find anything.
5. No, I have not been to any home.
Temperance CARTWRIGHT is in the 1850 Illinois census as the daughter of
Samuel CUTWRIGHT - but in land records and other records her father was
Samuel CARTRIGHT. I am interested to see if Samuel CARTWRIGHT was a
cousin of Peter CARTWRIGHT, the Methodist preacher. Pater and Samuel
had land that adjoined in Illinois. Samuel named his first son, Peter,
and I am guessing that that was to honor Peter CARTWRIGHT, the Methodist
preacher. I continue to try to get some answers........

1. Why & when did you start researching your Cartwright family history?
I started researching my Cavill family history about 25 years ago,
because
it's something I always wanted to do one day; and the fact that no one
before me had done any research. My Nan Cavill was maiden-named
Cartwright,
hence my interest.
2. Do you research Cartwrights only, or some if not all of the other
surnames that come/came in to your Cartwright family?
I research(ed) my Cavill line only, but added on any information given
to me
about those who married members of my Cavill line. Researching a family
"tree" is/was hard enough for me, and researching a family "forest"
is/was
far to hard for me. Cartwright is/was the ONLY non-Cavill line that I
have
made any attempt to research in some detail; such is my very
affectionate
memory of my much beloved Nan Cavill.
3. Have you met a "kin" Cartwright that was not known to be related to
you
and your own Cartwright family line?
No
4. Do any members of your family(s) show any interest on your
Cartwright
family history?
I've only made contact with one distant Cartwright relative(his Grandad
was
my Nan's brother) who shows any interest.
5. Have you managed to visit any of your Cartwright "ancestral homes"?
No, but I have walked on all of the land of my Cavill ancestors dating
back
to the late 1400's, starting where my Dad was born and raised.

1. Why & when did you start researching your Cartwright family
history?
Started doing family history about 35 years ago when I "inherited" boxes
of old letters and photos. Got serious about 10 years ago when I "met"
(online) a cousin who had previously been just a name on a list. She's
a Cartwright but a generation older and she actually knew my immigrant
GGrandparents. Praises for the internet. Without it I'd have never
gotten as far as I have.
2. Do you research Cartwrights only, or some if not all of the other
surnames that
come/came in to your Cartwright family?
More. Cartwright is my maternal Grandmother's line. Have attempted her
mother's line also. Additionally I am also chasing the other four
branches of my tree.
3. Have you met a "kin" Cartwright that was not known to be related to
you and your own Cartwright family line?
No surprise living kin among the Cartwrights. Several in other lines.
4. Do any members of your family(s) show any interest on your
Cartwright family
history? Not seriously. The ancestor hunters are
dying off and those in the younger generations seem to be busy with
their lives.
5. Have you managed to visit any of your Cartwright "ancestral homes"?
No. Getting to Cheshire and Lancs is on my bucket list, but ...
