Hello. I am 78 y/o DWF and have no knowledge of
William Cartwright. Everyone was dead by the time I arrived except my father, the last of
his line. I heard from a Lemuel
about 9 yrs ago and he was in W. VA. My dad was Henry Dewey Cartwright, b. 1900,
Edgewood, Van Zandt Co., TX, d. 1979 in Ft. Worth, Tarrant Co.. TX. I found him on 1920
census near Waco, TX while in the Army. I'm all off in searching for my Native Amer.
ancestors as my FT mtDNA has me in Siberia, 40,000 ago before we crossed the Behring
Strait when it was still a land mass. The book by Connie Cartwright Kosloski ???? said
she found them in Zeeland, Eng. as mariners then in St. Mary's Co., MD. I found them
to be Huguenots fleeing France during the Edict of Nantes, and the name was Cartelett.
My Thomas Cartwright m. Grace Halley in Quaker Meeting House in Pasquotank, Co., NC abt.
1685, I've forgotten. NC was a hotbed of Quakers. His grson, another of three
Thomases was b. 1805 in NC. I'll check my deed books and a Will book to see what I
can find. Will have to wait until tomorrow as my back is "killing" me.
It's so much fun to be old!!

Subject: [CARTWRIGHT] Need info on William L. Cartwright
Some years ago my brother, Wilson Lackey, did a YDNA test. This was done
because upon the death of my father, my aunt told me that our surname was
not supposed to be Lackey. Our ggrandmother was a Lackey, but her
husband/partner was not. His first/middle name was supposed to be William
Lemuel and my aunt thought the name might be Cartwright, or some variation
of that name. After years of waiting the got a 36-marker match with two
individuals with name variations of Cartwright. This means that it is over
99% certain that our ggrandfather was a Cartwright (or Catrett/Carteret).
We checked the places were our ggrandmother lived at the time she would have
conceived my grandfather (b. 9/21/1880). She lived in district #1 of Wise
County, TX and in that district was a single man named William L. Cartwright
(1857-1888), a son of a Lemuel Cartwright. We are now seeking any
additional information about him. Family history has our ggrandfather also
dying in 1888 from "consumption." We suspect this is the person (although
there is one other possibility not yet checked out in Fayette Co, TX that we
are pursuing). I have repeatedly tried to get in touch with Bob Cartwright
of this family, but he has not returned any emails.
Does anyone have any information at all on William L. Cartwright? His
informaiton has him single until his death in 1888, but I am looking for any
other clues that might tie him to my ggrandmother.
