Hello Bev,
How ironic that one of my CARTWRIGHT's also married a DAVENPORT :-)
My CARTWRIGHT's came from Whitchurch, Shropshire, England near Cheshire..
Thomas = Elizabeth DAVIES 9 Dec 1758 at Whitchurch.
They had a son Thomas b 1766 who married Eleanor DAVENPORT and they had the
following children that I am aware of;
Eleanor Davenport CARTWRIGHT b. 1805 (my 3x GGrandmother)
Sarah " " b. 1796
Maryann - 1797
Ann- 1800
Elizabeth- 1807
Hope someone see's a connection? Thank you.
Kindest regards,
Bill Cotgreave

1. I started my CARTWRIGHT research about 45 years ago. My
great-grandmother was Temperance CARTWRIGHT from DeWitt Co., Illinois
and she married Mason DAVENPORT from the same place ca. 1865.
2, I am researching both DAVENPORT's and CARTWRIGHT's and any & all
names that relate to the CARTWRIGHT's.
3. I have been to Clinton, DeWitt Co., IL and was told that I looked
like a CARTWRIGHT that was principal of the high school. I never got
the name to see if we were related.
4. Several of our family are very interested in what I find. They
don't want to do the research, but am interested when I find anything.
5. No, I have not been to any home.
Temperance CARTWRIGHT is in the 1850 Illinois census as the daughter of
Samuel CUTWRIGHT - but in land records and other records her father was
Samuel CARTRIGHT. I am interested to see if Samuel CARTWRIGHT was a
cousin of Peter CARTWRIGHT, the Methodist preacher. Pater and Samuel
had land that adjoined in Illinois. Samuel named his first son, Peter,
and I am guessing that that was to honor Peter CARTWRIGHT, the Methodist
preacher. I continue to try to get some answers........

replying to Bill, interesting that your Cartwrights came from Whitchurch Shropshire, mine
came from Atcham, Shropshire which is only 20 miles away. I wonder if we are related
somewhere?
