Hi Valeria-
There were a few Helm brothers who lived in Washington County, KY
in the late 1700's. They had many land dealings with the Phillip's
brothers. There are assumed to be 4 Phillips brothers, of Phillips
Station in said county. They are the sons of Sarah Cartwright and James
Phillips. Sarah was sister to the Longhunter Samuel Cartwright who was
a contemporary of Daniel Boones, and who died young, leaving only a
creek which (still) is named after him today. It runs through Marion,
Nelson and Washington Counties in KY.
This is the first instance I find of him in the records:
"On April 1, 1780, Thomas was issued Virginia Land Office Treasury
Warrant No. 569 for 400 acres on a preemption certificate. Two months
later Thomas Phillips entered 400 acres by virtue of preemption
certificate for the above land, and on November 28, 1782, it was
surveyed by John Helm and George May. A Virginia land grant was issued
to Thomas Phillips on January 27, 1780, on a survey dated November 28,
1782, on the waters of Floyd's Fork about 100 poles from the Salt River
trace on the west side and about six miles north of "Bullit's Lick."
The grant was signed by Benjamin Harrison, Governor of Virginia."
There was also a Helms Station in Hardin County, at the same time
Cartwright's Station, and (shortly after) Phillip's station were listed.
There were Helms Tax lists in that area, but I don't find your Jacob in
any of what I have.
I also found listed in the entries for the McCormack Grave yard, in
neighboring Casey County KY these entries:
"Helm, William son of G.W. & M.F. 12/4/1854 - 1/13/1855
Helm, Katie L. dau. Of S.H. & B. 1/15/1864 - 1/11/1878
Helm, Infant dau of S.H. & B. 8/19/1842 - 8/24/1842
Helm, Emily E. dau. Of S.H. & B. 6/3/1852 - 5/11/1853
Helm, Infant dau. Of G. W. & M.F. 2/10/1856 - 3/3/1856
Helm, William S. 12/19/1833 - 6/10/1854
Helm, Marquis 12/19/1839 - 1/3/1879
Helm, Maria 3/28/1823 - 9/9/1852
Next two stones were moved here from the old Helm graveyard off KY Hwy
1194, in the 1920's.
Helm, George 8/22/1747 - 7/9/1821
Helm, Frances 4/7/1761 - 10/6/1851
Helm, Ann wife of M. 5/24/1803 - 6/23/1854
Helm, Marquis 8/4/1801 - 8/8/1879"
These are the areas of specialty for my research, so may not be of any
help to you. However, you might consider doing an archival search in
rootswebs lists, and use some of this information for search criteria.
PLEASE let me know if you have any success in placing your Jacob and
Mathilda.
Thank You and Good Luck!
