Hi Lucy
Yes it sounds familiar, I have been collecting it for a long time. I know he
was referred to as Jesse by his son James A in pension applications, but I
have always wondered where the Carl came from. I have never run across any
record that shows his name as Carl, he is always referred to as Justinian or
Jesse. And his birth in Fairfax, Va?, is that because Matthew son of Peter
was there in 1757?

Subject: [CARTWRIGHT] Kentucky Cartwrights
Dear Cousins,
Just thought I would put in a word for the Kentucky Cartwrights. I,
too, am a daughter of a Cartwright. My mother was Alice Cartwright and
her GG Grandfather was Justinian (Jesse) Carl Cartwright (b 2-22-1752
in Fairfax, VA), who led the original families who settled our part of
the country from Virginia. The last ancestor I have in this line is back
to Hugh Cartwright (b. abt 1485 in Ossington, Nottinghamshire, England).
Also, Mathew Cartwright (b. 23 Oct 1634 in Middelburg, Zeeland Province,
Netherlands -d.1689 in Mary's County, Maryland). Any of this sound
familiar to anyone?
