Lisa, thanks for clarifying areas safe to walk, I also live and visit many areas in U.S.
where I walk my dogs safely.
My CARTWRIGHT'S are from Clark County IN and I suspect they originated from
Carolina's also, If I come across Levi I'll let you know.

Subject: Re: [CARTWRIGHT] The days when everybody walked eveywhere
I'm enjoying the discussion between Coral Anna and Pete. Very interesting
istory about The Maiden Bridge!
As an American, I must make one small correction to one of Coral Anna's
-mails so that the entire outside world won't think we are so horrible!
-)
beg to disagree that there are no places "to walk without putting yourself
n harms way" here in the States. That may be the case for the exact spot
here Coral Anna lives, but that is most definitely not the case for the
ntire Country. There are thousands of wonderful small towns across this
ountry where it is still perfectly safe and sound to take a morning or
vening stroll or walk to your place of employment every day. I live in a
eautiful tree filled neighborhood where it is a joy to take a stroll
veryday and wave hello to the neighbors or the car driving by. Now, if the
eather will just cooperate, I'll be thrilled!
My elusive Cartwright ancestor is Levi Cartwright, b. abt. 1800 in North
arolina. He and his wife Edith and their children are in McMinn Co., TN
et. 1830-1850. They were living in White Co., Tennessee in 1860 and Wilson
o., TN in 1870. If anyone can shed light on Levi's parentage, I'd be
orever grateful!

ubject: [CARTWRIGHT] The days when everybody walked eveywhere
elieve me, I remember those days so well and I sorely miss them living here
n the states...just nowhere to walk without putting yourself in harm's way.
hen I lived in Kalk Bay on the Cape peninsula I walked EVERywhere, it was a
oy because it was alongside the seashore and so healthy.

Like you, Coral; I'm glad I walked when I was able to and wanted to, even if
or most of the time I HAD to to get from A to B. I can same the same of my
ycling days. Fleeting glimpses as I go past in a car are NOT the same for
e.

My Cartwright folk are from Nantwich and I have been so lucky to come across
uch-removed cousins who still live there & have been a wonderful source of
nformation on the family and our history.
oral Anna
Nantwich is not far from Crewe, home of the world famous Rolls-Royce cars
or many many years.

uck for a Monday knee-deep in meetings!

If it wasn't for our 35-40C heat that we've been having in recent weeks( 80
lus days without rain), the afternoon would so much more pleasant, believe
e, Coral. I've been to more meetings that I've had hot dinners, and know
xactly how you feel:-)
est Wishes,
