Interesting - I wouldn't be at all surprized that he wasn't involved in
one of the wars that was going on between the English/Dutch at that time
& just stayed and married the beautiful Janneke????? The Dutch do have
extensive records, so you might be able to get hold of their marriage
certificate to see where he was born??

My Grandfather, Sid Cartwright was a bricklayer by trade and he loved
to work his way across country. ( Once worked his way to California)
My brother has a letter his sister wrote to him trying to convince him
to not go to Africa. I guess it worked; he didn't go. Maybe he
had a
reason to go other than to hunt the animals?
