David,
I live in Wayne County, West Virginia about 5 minutes from the Cabell County
line. I did a little research on this Thomas Cartmill. Believe it or not I am
not descended from the Kanawha/Cabell/Wayne Cartmills. But did the research as
a means of elimination.
I got every marriage, death, etc that I could find at the Wayne County
Courthouse and then ran up to Cabell County and made a copy of Thomas' will. I
used the will and did the best I could with the births and deaths, plus Census
info to make Family Group Sheets for Thomas' family.
I'll be glad to share anything I have with you. Don't expect any big
revelations.
I never made an effort to find out who this Thomas' father was. And now wish
that I had. I knew he was from Henry's line, somehow, somewhere so didn't
pursue it. But geez, I'm right here and can always jump in the car and run up
to the Courthouse. So no biggy.
I can see what a group effort it is going to be to sort these people out. And
I will be glad to do anything on my end humanly possible.
And don't think you are the only one who has made mistakes. I'm sure when the
smoke clears, we'll all be surprised, just exactly who is who.
I feel we (The Thomas and Mary Warwick Cartmill Bunch) are missing an aunt
here and there. Actually, we have NO aunts. So my guess is they have been
thrown in with Henry's family. We have four brothers John, Jr., Thomas, Samuel
and James. Any of these names look familiar to anyone? We know John, Jr.ended
up in Harrison County, Kentucky. We know our Thomas landed in Bath County,
Kentucky. But we've lost poor Samuel and James. At one time I was in touch
with a lady from the West Coast who was a descendant of Samuel. But the big
question was: Samuel, brother to our Thomas or Samuel, son of our Thomas? (We
lost him too). So I haven't heard from her in quite sometime. I'm sure open
for suggestions.
I did notice that we, and I'm going to say WE, (as being Henry and John's
families) have laid claim to Captain John Cartmill on one of the postings from
last week. If my memory serves me right, The Nathaniel and Sarah Russel
Cartmill Clan, have also claimed him. So he seems to be quite a popular guy.
Whoever he is!
So David. Any info I have is yours on the Cabell/Wayne Thomas. And I'm
interested to know where you have pinpointed his property to have been. I
always thought at the mouth of White's Creek at Cyrus on the Big Sandy River.
