John,
I've not gotten around to thanking you for all the information you have been
adding to the List. It's with a sigh of relief that we have gotten someone
from the other side of the "Big Water" interested.
There are seven of us Thomas and Mary Warwick Cartmill researchers that have
joined together in the last 3 or 4 years. You'll see postings from Phil
Cartmille (by the way, he's our token, the only one of us with the Cartmill
name), Daniel Gallagher, Glenn Blevins, Deborah Raines (my niece), Earliene
Kaelin, Jean Bailey (my sister) and I'm Paula Berry Hampton.
We formed a loose knit sort of ragtag group and it has developed into full
fledged friendship. They are all my family now. And I'd walk through fire for
them. And I'm hoping vice versa.
We bounce ideas and theories off each other right and left. We each have our
on little niche in the group. Some are better at some things than others. But
for some unknown reason, it works. We have our hunters and then we have our
gatherers. Who knew!!
We are spread across the country and God Bless the Internet. I feel that it
has been fate that we have come together as a group. And I sincerely hope we
can pick up more "family" as time goes by.
After four years, I know this Cartmill/Cartmell family is STILL a huge
mystery. I honestly don't think anyone has found all the answers as of yet.
But I think with help from people like you and all the Cartmill List members
pooling information, maybe we can figure it out.
Of course then my group has to move on and firgure out the Warwicks and
Dunlaps. Even worse than this. Shudder!!!!
Just wanted to let you know who I am and where I'm coming from.
By the way, my remark about my Cartmills not moving far was meant as a joke.
Mine went from Bath/Augusta, VA to Bath County, Kentucky. Only two brothers
stayed. My David and his brother Thomas. The others moved on to the Wild, Wild
West. Great adventure. My greatgrandmother who was a daughter to Mary
Cartmill, daughter of David, then moved BACK to VA/WVA. So we didn't go far.
Enjoying this more and more,
Paula Berry Hampton
