I am just now starting to clear up the facts about the Cartmills in
White county.
e are finally getting around to the TN, MS, Cartmill's.
The five Cartmill's that show up in White County abt. 1835.
1. Margaret b. TN abt. 1815 m/ 1837 James Wicker
2. Ann age unknown, she married 1840 William B. Parkhurst and died as
he remarried Isabella McElherin 1854 . I haven't located William
Parkhurst on the censuses for White County.
3. James b. abt. 1825 MS. He married 1846 Manerva Caroline Brockett b.
1829 LA
4. John b. abt.1824 or 1826 (he and James give same age on census so
they were either twins or one year apart. he
marries Peggy Hannah Storey 1857.
5. Abel b. abt. 1830 MS is living with John and mother Margaret 1850
census White County. I do not find any other
information about him.
Mother Margaret was born 1797 TN. We have been unable to find the
father so far. Martin Cartmill b. 1797 and the Children of Solomon
Cartmill (b. abt. 1770) went to TN after Solomon died and their
mother remarried and they did not like the situation or so the story
goes. All of the above were still alive when the five Cartmill's end
up in White County. The only other Cartmill we have found in TN
follows:
1820 Bedford County TN Federal Census pg. 59
John Cartmill 45+ (b. 1775 or before)
1 Female 45+ (b. 1775 or before)
2 males -10 (b. 1810-1820
1 male 10-15 (b. 1804-1810)
2 Males 16-25 (b. 1794-1804)
2 females -10 (b. 1810-1820)
1 female 16-25 (b. 1794-1804)
I have not located this family after 1820. I do know that the 1790
census showed a William (I think but not sure as I am pulling off the
top of my head)in S.C.
this could be the father to the five that end up back in White County.
At any rate please let me know if you have found any further
information, or any corrections that I need to make.
Thank You;
