HI,
I thought that I would send this out again.
Edward W. Cartmell b:c1819 in Virginia according to the
census d:25 Mar 1863 buried Dodge Grove Cem. Coles Co. IL
married in 26 May 1840 Bracken Co. KY to Susan E. Van Deren
b: 12 Apr 1823 Nicholas Co. KY, d: 01 Oct 1908 m: second to
Adam W. Hart of Coles Co. 15 Dec 1880
Her family was from Harrison Co. KY.
Edward and Susan joined in the migration to Coles Co. IL
shortly afterwards. Edward and Susan had 4 children:
Mary A. b: c1844 m: Wm. Detwiler 1865 in Coles Co.
Stephen A. b: c1847 m: Rusha Ewing 28 Jun 1871 Coles Co.
George E. b:c1849 nothing else known
Charles W. b:c1854 d: 7 Jan 1882 bur: Dodge Grove Cem. Coles
Co. IL
m: Eliza Ann White 1878
According to the 1905 Coles Co. History, Edward Cartmell and
George W. Cartmill owned and operated an "amusement hall"
called CARTMELL HALL in Mattoon in the 1850's. It burned
down at some point, I think before the history was written.
I am assuming this George to be a brother of Edward, since
his son George was born in 1849, too young to be a business
partner.
George W. Cartmell m: 8 Jan 1849 Elizabeth Ellis in Coles
Co. IL.
Since three males in this family have the middle initial of
W., I wonder whose maiden name begins with W. Was Edward and
George's mother's maiden name something that started with W.
like Wigglesworth, Williams, Willis, Wyatt,
etc........................................!
Susan and Edward used the family names as far as I can tell:
Mary and Stephen were both named after Susan's parents, Mary
Munson and Stephen Murray Van Deren. George and Charles both
could be the name of Edward's and George's father. Any
guesses????????
