Cartmills,
I belong to several family lists. Our DAY List is in a rousing discussion
right now about DNA Testing. It seems that several families....surnames escape me
right now....are going through DNA testing to prove their lineage.
I am DNA illiterate....but we have several people on that DAY List who are
very informed and have taken part in other Family DNA Tests.
I am really excited about the whole thing. But I don't know how any of you
would feel about it. I can only tell you....the mouth swab testing can only be
done with a direct
CARTMILL/CARTMELL descendant. Because the "Y" Chromosome is what is tested
and it is only carried by males of direct descent. Females can be tested...but
it is more expensive and I think only with actual blood.
I believe we could settle this whole John and Henry Cartmill question using
this test..using 2 Primary Male Cartmills/Cartmells...one from John and one
from Henry. Then if females wanted to connect that also could be done.
The tests are not nearly as expensive as I had thought. I won't quote
prices...because I'm sure it depends on different labs. I believe there is a Website
at Rootsweb somewhere that helps explain it all....if not and you are
interested, I do have some other Websites.
Earliene and I have held firmly to the belief that John Cartmill of the
Cowpasture River in Augusta and the first Henry are brothers. Both coming from
Chester County, PA. But we have no solid proof as of yet. This testing would help
sooo many people decipher these Cartmills.
We have our "TOKEN" male Cartmill descendant.(Please, Unky, don't be
offended
because I have called you a token.) We are from John Cartmill of the
Cowpasture, and his son, Thomas, who married Mary WARWICK and finally settled in Bath
County, Kentucky.
So any thoughts???
