Subject: CARTMILL/RUCKER
John B Cartmill's sister Virginia (Jennie) Cartmill who married Stephen
T Hubbard was my third great grandmother. John B Cartmill and his wife
Catherine both died in Pike county IN. John was treasurer of Shelby
county IN during 1844/50 and was the first secretary of Odd Fellows
Lodge #39 organized in 1846 in Shelby co. He was also a school teacher
and a farmer and practiced law for a time in Shelby co. The first two
children of John and Catherine were born in VA and the remainder in IN:
Frances born ca 1830, Charles W born ca 1832, Hannah J born in 1839,
John W born in 1841, Robert T born in 1843, Elzy born in 1846, Climena
born ca 1847, Catherine C born in 1849 and Mary Elizabeth born in 1852.
I have history on the Cartmill families back to Henry Cartmill in 1716
and the book John Cartmill and Stephen Hubbard Kin compiled by my great
uncle Lloyd Poland is available from Berneice Poland (phone
864-244-7039). I am not sure of the price since mine was a
complimentary copy.
I also have photos of both John and Catherine and other Cartmill family
members.
Hope these items are of help to you and I am interested to know how you
fit into our family . . .
