For several years I seen numerous messages about Cartledges who lived in
several different southern states, and apparently immigrated quite early.
I've never seen any reference to where they came from until your reference
to England in your message below.
I have Cartledge ancestry, but they immigrated in 1841, and settled in NY
state. They came from Old Basford in Nottingham, England, and the two
brothers who immigrated were framework knitters. They pursued other
occupations in NY after they settled.
I'm curious if your Cartledges came from the Nottingham area and if
somewhere, way back in time, all the Cartledges came from one family of that
name. I've tracked my Cartledges back to Gervase Cartledge (unknown birth
date) who died in 1805 in Linby, Nottingham.

Hi Carl,
My grandfather was Samuel Groves Cartledge older brother of Carl H.
Cartledge, your grandfather. My mother was Thelma Cornelia Cartledge.
She died in February. We lived in Augusta and in Madison County, Georgia
while I was growing up. I now live in Houston, TX. I have some
