Hi!
I understand why you are connecting Elijah to John, the son of Edmund and Elizabeth Keble
Cartledge, because that is about the only son that he fits with. Have you found any
documents that link Elijah with John & his wife?
What would truly help us is to set up a Cartledge Family DNA Project. Do you have access
to a known male descendent of Elijah? It has to be a male as the YDNA is passed from
father to son. I set up an Emerson Family DNA Project with Family Tree DNA about 2 years
ago. All we need is two Cartledge men to start a Project. My grandfather's
grandmother was Rebecca Cartledge.... so far back I don't know any Cartledges
personally. YDNA does cost money, but it is truly worth it.
I don't know if you have come across this record, but if you haven't I think you
will find it interesting:
Columbia Co GA Inferior Court Minutes in 1805, p 297 John Cartledge, a minor over 14, son
of John Cartledge, deceased chooses James Blanchard his guardian, bond $1000. Ibid, p.298
on petition of Mary Cartledge, grandmother of Mary Cartledge, Elizabeth Cartledge and
Sarah Cartledge, minors of John Cartledge, deceased, that James Blanchard may
be appointed guardian. He is appointed guardian, bond $3000. Jane Cartledge, the mother
of the children was their guardian but she was dead 7 Jan 1805. Mary Cartledge was dead
by 3 Nov 1806 as shown in Letters of Administration of Columbia Co, p 134, Joshua Grinage
and Wm Jones, appointed administrators.
Take care...
