Hi Susan,
I checked Family Tree DNA and I did not find a Catledge or a Cartledge listed. Perhaps you
have to have more than one person participating for them to list it. Is that true in this
case? Our Emerson DNA Project recommends doing 37 or 67 markers as it gives more
information for matches. A 25 marker match with different surnames may not be
significant.
I don't know a Cartledge personally myself even though my gt gt grandmother was
Rebecca Cartledge/Cartlidge. In checking my records, my ancestor Samuel Cartledge, Sr. had
a brother John b 9/5/1744 who most likely received a land grant in Craven Co., SC,
5/5/1771. A John Cartledge had three indents for supplies furnished for the Continental
Army in 1781/1782. A John Cartledge was on the Chesterfield Co, SC, 1800 Census. 12 in
family... I do not know the names of any of his children... No proof this John was my
ancestor's brother, but I feel it is very likely.
My best wishes on your DNA Project and your research. Jan
