TO All (and Myron Sampson)
In researching my book "The Carter Family: From England to Monroe County
Kentucky," I transcribed the personal property and land tax lists from
Buckingham CO VA (just the individuals who had Carter surnames) from
about 1774 or so, to 1824, to include analysis on who is who, etc (since
they, like all Carters, were named either Henry, Joseph, or John (ha))).
It also includes how much land they paid tax on, cattle/horses, white and
black tithes. This info WAS NOT contained in the book.
I have finally completed putting this into microsoft word format from
paper and I am sending to the VA Archives, and VA historical society. I
will email it to anyone who wants it - I do not have attachment
capability, but will send it in a msg. Or, you can send me a disk (I
will provide my mailing address for anyone who wants it this way) and I
will download it for you
Myron Sampson, let me know your email address and I will send it to you.
Also, everyone who is a CPT Thomas Carter VA descendant should know, as I
stated in my book and compiled research on that others had done
(primarily Charles Warner), that CPT Thomas Carter was predated in VA by
MAJ. Thomas Carter also of Lancaster who undoubtedly was his father - he
is also the most convincing link between CPT Thomas and John Carter of
Corotoman (King Carter's father) as kin. I have quite a bit of info on
this link - too much to rehash here, obviously, as I covered it
extensively in my book. Maj. Thomas had dealings with CPT Thomas's
father-in-law as well. This Maj. Carter was noted as "ye Ancient
Planter," a distinction given to certain of the very first VA colonists.
Paul Carter.
