Thursday night Garland CARTER died at his home 5 miles east of Marion
and on Friday the interment took place at the Thurman cemetery near the
farm. Mr. Carter was in his 70th year and had he lived, would have
rounded out the three score and ten years on the 16th day of next April.
He came from Logan county to Crittenden county just 40 years ago the 23rd
of this month. When he reached this county his possessions, besides an
excellent wife, consisted in the main of one horse, and according to
tradition, it was blind. Besides farming he turned his attention to stock
raising and in this line he was the most successful man in the county. His
estate is estimated at $20,000 - $30,000. His farm consists of 700 acres
