Dear Jim,
Indeed, you are quite correct - looks like the same family. Apologies
for my inexperience in not being able to spot it before. I wish I had a
way to transmit the book copy, but 50+ pages is beyond my transcription
range. You may want to take a look at it, however, as it also includes a
sub-section on the CREWES family. As noted earlier, the book is as
follows:
"Some Southern Colonial Families, Vol 4" David A. Avant, Jr. published
by L'Avant Studios, Post Office Box 1711, Tallahassee, FL 32302, 1991
The copy I have is from Sutro Library, San Francisco, CA. So you may be
able to get it on Inter-Library loan if all else fails.
Do you possibly have anything further on BENJAMIN CARTER (Your #14-i),
son of Giles Carter Jr., and Mary POVALL?
In any event, hope this may be helpful and good hunting!

This looks to be the same line. Here's my version of the three Giles' plus
their father Giles (this link was tentative, as described in note below).
Note that the last Giles lists a son "Morton" in his will.
First Generation
---------------------------------------------
1. Gyles CARTER. Born in Lower Swell, Glouchestershire, England.
Gyles Carter sailed on the ship "Supply" to Virginia, in 1620. He returned
in 1623, with Thomas Tracy and others of the surviving Glouchestershire
Colonists. There he married Elizabeth, Thomas Tracy's sister. It is
assumed that the Giles Carter that returned to virginia in 1653, and Thomas
in 1654 are the offspring of this marriage; due mostly to the name of Giles
being peculiar to Glouchestershire - and that all their acquaintances and
people they married, were originally from Glouchestershire, England.
He married Elizabeth TRACY, daughter of William TRACY & Mary. They had the
following children:
2 i. John CARTER
3 ii. Thomas CARTER
4 iii. Mary CARTER
5 iv. Giles CARTER
6 v. Elizabeth CARTER
7 vi. Anne CARTER
8 vii. William CARTER
Second Generation
---------------------------------------------
5. Giles CARTER.
Giles arrived in Virginia in 1653
He married Hannah CREWE, daughter of James CREWS. They had the following
children:
9 i. Theodrick CARTER
10 ii. Mary CARTER
11 iii. Anne CARTER
12 iv. Susannah CARTER
13 v. Giles CARTER Jr.
Third Generation
---------------------------------------------
13. Giles CARTER Jr. Born in Henrico, VIRGINIA.
He married Mary POVALL. They had the following children:
14 i. Benjamin CARTER
15 ii. Povall CARTER
16 iii. Robert CARTER
17 iv. Giles CARTER III
18 v. Mary CARTER
Fourth Generation
---------------------------------------------
17. Giles CARTER III. Born in Henrico, VIRGINIA.
