The CARTERs of Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Wood Co., TX, are known to
me through my Uncle J. Curtis CARTER's book CARTER and Kinsmen. They are my CARTER
family of Pike County, AL. There are still many CARTERs in Pike Co. Here is what my
uncle writes: "John Carter, Jr., was born in Georgia in 1837. He married Dorinda
Whitehurst, a sister of his brother Stephen's wife, November 14, 1863. I understand
he
lost a leg in the Civil War. John Carter Jr. was an ordained minister in the Primitive
Baptist Church. He served Beulah Church in Troy {Pike Co., AL}, Paran Church 4 or 5
miles east of Troy, and Elam Church [where many of this CARTER family's ancestors are
buried] 2 mi. north of Goshen in Pike Co. He moved to Wood Co., TX., Quitman and
Winnsboro and served Hopewell Primitive Baptist there as pastor. His children were
Frank who married Maude Fowler, John who married Nellie Beard, and William Henry who
married Elliott Hooks first and Laura Holley second. John E. CARTER jr died Nov. 25,
1904 in Wood Co. Tx. and is buried along with some members of his family in Hopewell
Primitive Baptist Cemetery." For anyone interested here is his family tree:

Sorry everyone that you received more than one of these. Didn't
appear anything
was transmitting and my computer shut down. However, if you received more than one,
save the last one and destroy the rest. I added a little more detail on the final
one.
