Hello Carter Cousins, especially descendants of:
Eramus Jackson Goodwin CARTER, b 24 Aug 1845 Lauderdale Co, MS &
Margaret Adelia (KIRBY) CARTER, b 16 Apr 1849,
and of:
Elisha Schroebel CARTER, b 1 June 1847 Quitman, Lauderdale Co, MS &
Missouri Caroline (KIRBY) CARTER. b 1 Jul 1852 Macon, Bibbs Co, GA.
Margaret and Missouri were daughters of (William) Henry
KIRBY & July/Julia Ann (WOOD) KIRBY.
Late in 1996, Mrs. Virginia Frost sent me some information which she was
so kind as to copy from books and records in the library and courthouse
in Camden, AR. Must have been about a year before I read the
information. Part of those records included:
Kirby Cemetery
- Turn left at top of hill, highway 24, before getting to Chidester, AR
on past Pleasant Hill High School about a mile to land of Eugene Gulley,
on which lives Georgia Sockwell - about 1/4 mile back of house in woods
at a large cedar tree.
Also, included on a separate page was:
KIRBY FAMILY CEMETERY
Butler, Adam Sept. 23, 1815 Sept. 24, 1867
Kirby, Henry May 2, 1805 Aug 28, 1888
Kirby, Julia Ann May 1, 1821 Oct. 12, 1869
Kirby, Georgia Ann June 10, 1865 Oct. 12, 1871
No other graves apparent. This cemetery is not fenced and is grown up
with bushes and small trees.

Later correspondence with Mrs. Frost confirmed that the cemetery is still
in extremely bad shape.
Just recently, I received the following e-mail from Mr. Jesse Wood:

Hello Tim;
I live in Chidester, Arkansas and am familiar with the Kirby Cemetery.
It's no longer in use and is grown over by woods. I knew Mr. Henry Kirby
and his wife, he worked as a clerk in the Chidester Mercantile Store when
I was a child. They were also members of the Chidester Baptist Church of
which I am a member.

BTW, I did get another post from Jesse Wood saying that it was a grandson
named Henry Kirby he knew!!
