As can be seen from Subject, my Joseph, CARTER family migrated in various
directions.
I do not know where my Joseph (b ? ca 1755 - d Knox Co, TN 1819) was from
and that is the crux of my problem.
If I knew that I might concentrate my search. I know that he was tied
closely to the MENEFEE (MINIFEE) family who lived variously in
Spotsylvania, Orange, Culpeper, Henry Co. VA and later Knox Co. TN.
Joseph was in the Pittsylvania Co Militia in 1777, together with a George
CARTER who may have been his brother or father. Joseph named his first son
George. Married in Henry Co, VA to Nancy MENEFEE in 1778. His
brother-in-law, John MENEFEE, led a group, including some of Joseph's
children, to AL and then in 1830 to TX.
The family that went on to MO was considered by some in TN as "dead" and
their existence was denied. Probably a political thing.
Hope the migration routes or MENEFEE name mean something to someone.
