HARDY JESSE CARTER b. 1736, in germany, of Scotch descent; m. LYDIA SKIPPER,
a woman of Spanish ancestry; came to America prior to the revolution and
settled in that part of South Carolina now Darlington co; served 4 years in
the Revolution under Gen. Francis Marion, enlisting Sept 3, 1778, in 4th
Artillery Regiment of SC. Children: GEORGE CARTER, THOMAS CARTER, HARDY
CARTER, CHARLES CARTER, JESSE CARTER and:
MATTHEW CARTER, b Darlington co SC 21 May 1787; m. Catherine Boran 1820; d.
1885. Had four daus and:
(1) WILLIAM T. CARTER
(2) GEORGE WASHINGTON CARTER
(3) MATTHEW CARTER b. Greenville SC Dec 15 1829; went to Jonesboro TN when a
young man and m. Mary Emma Brown; moved to Sweetwater, 1865 where he became
atinware manufacturer and produce merchant; had, with other issue:
(a) W B CARTER; resides at 1429 Rosewood Ave, Louisville, Ky.
