Last Will and Testament of William JOHNSTON Culpeper Co, VA (Will Bk A
1749-1770)
Bequeaths to his son, Robert JOHNSTON.............the lot of land "I hold
of Colonel Charles Carter...."
In the Orange Co, VA Deed Book 4 (1740-1741) 20 Nov 1740 - Indenture in
which Charles CARTER rents and leases land in Orange Co to William Johnston
(and several others named) located on the Mountain Run and known as the
"Mount Pony". recorded 26 March 1741.
Same Deed Book - recorded 26 March 1741. Indenture in which Charles
CARTER, Esquire leases to William JOHNSTON, of Orange Co, for the lives of
said JOHNSTON and his sons Robert and William, Jr 150 acres on Mountain
Run part of the "Mount Pony" tract. Hence the land bequeathed by William
Johnston.
Question: Does anyone know more of this Charles CARTER? Is it possible he
is the son of James CARTER and Mary BRENT?
My interest is that William JOHNSTON was the grandfather of my gr gr
grandmother Nancy Menefee and this may lead me to Nancy's husband Joseph
CARTER.
