Subject: [CARTER-L] Eliza H. Carter
I am new to the list and would really appreciate any help in
tracing
my
"long-lost" Carter line. I am looking for a connection to
the following:
ELIZA H. CARTER, born July 9, 1946 in Gatesville (or possibly
Gainsville) Georgia. Eliza married John West Wilkins on May 14, 1861 in
Walker Co., TX. She died Dec. 12, 1870, also in Walker Co., TX. There
was
one surviving child of this union , my G-Grandfather, William Andrew
Wilkins. William Andrew Wilkins' Bible sites the parents of Eliza Carter
Wilkins as JOHN W. and GATSEY M. CARTER.
To help trace the Carter family, I will relay what is known of the
Wilkins line. John West Wilkins was born in Georgia and the family was in
Monroe Co., in the 1840 census. Then the Wilkins were in Tallapoosa Co.,
Alabama in the 1850 census. Next the Wilkins family moved to Scott Co.
Mississippi and were there for the 1860 census. John Wilkins and Eliza
Carter were then married in 1861 in Walker Co., TX. So, the Carters could
have been in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Texas.
Thanks so very much for checking to see if you can find a connection
to
my Eliza Carter. I would love to trace the Carter line.
