Kymm,
Have you not seen the actual census record with the childre in order? If "Bud"
was born first then there would have been time for Thomas to be 1mo. or less in
the 1850 census. The census should tell what month the enumerator came to the
house. It took several months sometimes to find all the houses.
Also, perhaps Thomas was a little premature?? There are a number of
possibilities here.

Hi All!
First, I'm posting to multiple lists, so advanced apologies if you receive
this more than once.
I recently had a huge breakthrough with my CARTER line so I thought I'd post
my new info to see if anyone has any info or can make a connection.
My ggg-grandparents were Jefferson CARTER and Sarah LESTER. Both were born
about 1824, he in Tennessee, she in Kentucky according to the 1850 Jackson
County, TN Census. Children I have for this couple include:
-James CARTER - born about 1847 in TN
-Thomas J. CARTER- (age one month on 1850 census)
-Woodford Richardson "Bud" CARTER - b. Dec. 29, 1849 Jackson County, TN - d.
31 Aug 1927 Nashville, Davidson Co., TN - m. Susan Mary SPEAR in 1878 Clay
Co., TN. - 9 children all born in Clay County, TN and Monroe Co., KY.
-Fannie CARTER - d. aft 1927 m. Unk. USREY
Big question here!! This Thomas J. was one month old in the 1850 census.
Bud was born in Dec. of 1849. Could this Thomas J. actually be Bud? If so,
why would they change his name??
My sources include the 1850 Jackson County, TN Census, 1880 Clay County, TN
Census, Clay County Marriage records, Death Certificate, gravestone, and
obituary of W. R. CARTER, and the delayed birth certificate of Earnest
CARTER CARNEY, d/o Bud.
Any help with these folks would be most appreciated!
Thanks,
Kymm
