These are excerpts from a book entitled " THe Virginia Dynasties", by Clifford
Dowdey.
Robert "King" Carter's father John Carter was established in the colony by
1642
with uncovered records showing him to have purchased alnd while he was in Jamestown
in 1642.
It was John Carter's younger son RObert, child of his father's old age, who
became
the archetype of the Va. aristocrat in the complete meaning of the word. ....
biggest shipper, biggest planter of his day, both shipper and boatbuilder, stockman
and store owner, moneylender and investor, and the largest robber baron of his time
in land acquisitions.
The richest man in Virginia, perhaps the entire colonies, most poerful politically;
president of the appointive King's council, and served as acting governor for one
brief period as well.(at age 63ca 1726-27).
I really do not the patience to review the book further tonite but it was published
by Bonanza Books in 1969 and the card registry for the Library of Congress is
69-12637,
crown Publishers. It is a book mostly about the family of mr Carter but many of his
compatriots are mentioned as well.
" Robert Carter lost his wife, Judith, in 1699 leaving him w/four children: John,
ELizabeth, judith and Anne; their residence was Corotoman. He held 40 other smaller
plantations.
In 1702 he had married a young widow, Betty Landon Willis(born in Herefordshire,
England) d/o Thomas Landon, Esq. SHe had previous been married to Mr Richard WIllis.
and her new husband was now 39.
His dtr Elizabeth married first a Burwell; the a Dr RObert Nicholas
His dtr Judith married a Col. Page
Robert Jr( also known as RObin)
His son John married Elizabeth Hill of Shirley plantation(grandtr/o Col Edward Hill
Anne had married one of the Harrisons."
There is a lot more in the book.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the Parents,
siblings,
and/or children of Robert "King" Carter?
Yesterday, I posted for information on Charles CARTER, and received many
answers, with a world of information, but, all of them seem to indicate that
perhaps I should be searching a little earlier than Charles...I have his
father John, so the only other place to start is with Robert... Thanks very
much. And thanks very much to the many people who answered my post on
Charles...
