Alyce and Kathy,
Not to confuse further...I have a Mahola Frances CARTER, b. 1867, d/o
William CARTER, b. 1820 VA - d. March 1887 VA and Rebecca J. TILLER. My
William CARTER is the s/o John CARTER, b. 2/4/1791 Surry Co., NC - d.
3/2/1859 VA and Frances "Fanny" CANADAY. John CARTER is the brother to my
direct CARTER ancestor, Daniel CARTER, b. 1791 Surry Co., NC - d. bet
1880-1890 Tazewell Co., VA, who married Susannah CANADAY. John and Daniel
CARTER's parents were Simeon, b. abt 1754 Morris Co., NJ - d. 4/1814
Tazewell Co., VA and Catherine CARTER.
My CARTER genealogy was prepared in 1978, pre-Internet Genealogy. I
inherited it through my Grandmother, so I did not do the research, however,
the notes under Simeon CARTER say, "...It appears that the Carters migrated
along the Wilderness Road, starting in Virginia, settling in Wilkes Co. and
Surry Co., NC for a while, then settling in Tazewell Co., VA and on to MO
through the Cumberland Gap...Other children were mentioned, but only four
named in Simeon's will proven April 1814. There may have been a son,
William, who married Catherine WILLIAMS in 1815...further James CARTER, s/o
the above Daniel CARTER, wrote in 1883 in a book about Linn Co., MO that his
uncle William fought in the War of 1812."
I have no Joseph CARTER! If this adds any more confusion, I apologize, but
if it is the family you are researching, I would be more than willing to
share.

Marianne et al,
I was interested to see this Simeon Carter from Morris Co NJ. I have in my
family tree a Philander Carter b1769 d1811 from Morris Co. He had 1 son
(that I've found) Jacob, who later moved to Monmouth Co. Jacob had several
sons, Jacob W, my direct ancestor and John to name a few. Do you have any
further info on your Simeon?
Thanks Sharon
