Dear Cousin Sherri,
Our Carters are very elusive-just busy, I guess. Your research story is
so similar to mine, I rushed to verify some dates and family histories
sheets. I think my Richard P Carter (s/ Robert, s/ Peter,s/ John) b 1778 in
Franklin Co, VA (near NC) is a brother to your John Carter b 1774. Those
borders around the REV WAR were changing then so this could be the same
place!
A few lines of Carters made a wagon train down to Maury Co and made
surrounding counties. This is called "Middle TN" in which land patents were
pieced to those who fought or served in the REV WAR.
Some Carters "took a tour" of various land grants: NC, SC, GA, KY, IN,
IL. Then they chose the best land. My Richard P(I think it stands for
Peter) Carter met the Livesays from the same area in NC. Williamson Co. was
created about 1803 from part of Maury Co. He ended up marrying Sara (Sally)
Windrow (Winrow, or Winro) on 23 Aug 1803 in Windrow, Williamson Co, TN.
Verified with lic. Her father's will also verifies this. This couple died
in Richland Twp, Morgan Co, IL in 1836 and 1850s respectively. I am
studying his siblings now.
I think I have information on this Peter Francisco Carter. Give me some
time and I will contact you. It is wonderful meeting new cousins.
I know we are cousins,
Sharon Lengfellner

Subject: [CARTER-L] Peter Francisco Carter/Maury Co., Tn Carters
Looking for any information that might link Peter Francisco Carter to
John
Carter of Maury Co., Tn. Peter was born abt 1805 in NC and was later found
in Maury and Lawrence Co., Tn censuses. I believe him to be the son of John
Carter b. 1774 in NC. John is found in Maury Co. Tn census in 1830. Peter
and his ancestors have been my brick wall for 15 yrs now !
Thanks,
Sherri
