Kathleen
Who are your Browns? Would you mind posting information about them on the
Nelson Co list, please?
I am looking for the parents of George Brown b: ABT 1812 in Nelson Co.
Thank you
Betsy

Subject: [CARTER] William Carter Hardin/Nelson/Larue counties
Hi Lu Ann and I think COUSIN!!!
(somehow I am not on the Hardin County list anymore - can someone forward
this email to that list?)
I did not think my Samuel had a son named William.... I had 9 children for
him (thanks to Sally Music and others on the Nelson/Hardin/LaRue
Rootslists...).
But I thought I would get out my xerox copies of the Tax Records which I
copied a few years ago for the Browns and Carters... (both my direct lines)
*And this is what I found: William is listed right under my Samuel !!!! So
this looks like he is a son - OH MY GOSH!!! See 1805...*
**
Here is a list of the Carters in Hardin County Tax Records: (not listed
together unless noted)

land) 1 over 21? 1 over 16?*
*I cannot tell if there is 1 above 21 (one is faded, ink blot on other) but
definitely 1 white over 16 for Samuel Jr and William (I thought they had to
be 21 to be listed...or perhaps the guy should have marked 1 black over
16???)*
*NOTE: These 3 Carters above are one after the other, implying they live
next to each other or in the same household.*

Carter, Samuel 251 Hardin Nolin
L Linder? 1 over 21
(this is the year that Samuel Senior died) AND Barnabas and Samuel are
right next to each other? but there are no dates in the column to know if
they were actually done on the same date)
Carter, James no land 1 over 21, 2 blacks over 16, , 5
total blacks 6 horses
NOTE: this is the year that Thomas Lincoln showed up!
1811 - not complete - the machine ran out of toner... only did 1/2 of some
pages (2 copies made 1 page) and the film went back before I could get back
to it.
Carter, James (no land)
Carter, Barnabas 250 Hardin Pottingers Creek
Carter, James? (maybe Samuel) 250 Larue
Carter, Jacob 113 3/4
So LuAnn, if this above record is correct, our William turned 21 in 1805
(first time on the records) therefore born in 1784. Is that what you
figured out?
Thanks to others, I have Samuel's family - at least in Nelson/Hardin
Counties.... All I know is that he is from North Carolina. I have not
researched him any farther. Some say his wife, Susannah, is Susannah
Pipes. I do NOT believe that.... check the dates out for Susannah Pipes..
Can you receive a GEDCOM?

Hi, Jane--I'm convinced my Carter line comes from this cluster of
Carters
in
Nelson County, KY. My William Carter shows up there 1 Feb 1810 in a
marriage to Hannah Lewis, daughter of Abijah Lewis. Any clues,
anyone?
