We're looking for the parents of a Solomon Carter, born 1813 in Wilson Co.,
TN.
He also lived in Kentucky, apparently having moved across the border a few
times.
Here is the family info I'm starting from:
Solomon CARTER (b. 1813, Wilson Co., TN; lived TN & Logan Co., KY, maybe
Todd Co., KY)
Married Ann H. STEWART (b. 1815), 21 Oct 1834
I note that Solomon was listed in the 1850 Tennessee Census as living in
Wilson Co. with his wife and children, as follows:
CARTER, SOLOMON 37, ANN 35, CELIA F. 13, NANCY E. 12, SARAH ALLEN CARTER 10,
WILLIAM A. 8, JAMES A. 6, JOHN B. 4, ALBERT P. 2, T T, WL-125-642
(My husband is descended from Solomon's son James Anderson Carter, born 1844
in Wilson Co., TN.)
Via DNA testing, we have recently determined that my husband belongs to
"Group 7" at
carter-cousins.org.
http://www.carter-cousins.org/results/numbers.htm
The person whose DNA my husband's matched exactly was named McKinney Carter,
born about 1780-1783 in either eastern TN or VA, most likely. I note that
McKinney Carter had some children in TN during the time that Solomon was
born, but McKinney then moved to southern Indiana by 1815 (and didn't have
any children named Solomon), which leads me to believe that Solomon may have
been the son of one of McKinney's brothers.
My husband's DNA was also very similar to a John E. R. Carter, born in
Greene Co., TN in 1824.
I note that some of the other early Carters in Group 7 (at
carter-cousins.org) lived in Virginia, including a Nathan and Charles.
So I am trying to figure out
a) who Solomon Carter's parents were
and/or
b) who McKinney Carter's parents/siblings were.
I also noted that a Solomon Carter was the bondsman at the wedding of an
Enos Carter in Wilson Co. TN in 1837. Perhaps he was one of Solomon's
brothers?
Any clues about how/where to look for more information would be appreciated.
Thank you!
