Could it have been Caroline County, VA????
Marsha
I spent yesterday at the courthouse and copied every Deed and Will, I
could find up to 1850. One of the Wills that I found was for Armstead
Carter who wrote his Will in 1795. I also copied his inventory which
was done in 1797.
Armstead gives very little information in his Will. He gives everything
to his wife Elizabeth and that she was to have his land in another
county. The name is not clear, but begins with a "C". It looks like it
could be Carroll, but Carroll County, VA was not in existance until
1842. The only other county that begins with a "C" is Campbell County.
It could be camell county for Campbell, but until I can look at the deed
indexes it is just a guess. Armstead says that his brother Robert
currently lives on the land that he is giving to his wife.
If anyone on this list has access to the Campbell County deed index, or
has information about Armstead, his wife Elizabeth and his brother
Robert, please contact me. I am happy to share any of the information I
obtained.
Thanks so much.
