There were several George Carters and John Carters who lived in Appling
County and surrounding areas. George was particularly common. One branch,
I think, moved to Alabama. You might try Our Heritage: Descendants of Jacob
Carter of Colleton County, South Carolina, by Mary Ketus Deen Holland. Also
try the Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia series published by the Huxford
Genealogical Society of Homerville, Georgia.
I would be very curious to see how this family links with Captain Thomas
Carter of Virginia.

Hi,
My GGgrandfather's name was George Carter but I haven't been able to find
anything on him . Relatives say that he possibly lived in Alabama at some
point
in time. The only child I am aware of is John C. Carter who lived in Georgia
around the Appling, Bacon County area. Our Carter line is from Captain
Thomas
Carter from Virginia.
