Does anyone have information on this CARTER family?
I found the following in the LDS Family Search IGI
files:
James CARTER - Birth: 1810 Misc, Kentucky - Spouse:
Eliza Mrs CARTER
Eliza Mrs CARTER - Birth: 1818 Misc, Ohio - Spouse:
James CARTER
Solomon CARTER - Birth: 1834 Misc, Illinois - Father:
James CARTER - Mother: Eliza Mrs CARTER
Crestina CARTER - Birth: 1838 Misc, Illinois -
Father: James CARTER - Mother: Eliza Mrs CARTER
JOHN CARTER - Birth: 1841 Misc, Illinois - Father:
James CARTER - Mother: Eliza Mrs CARTER
Cynthia A. CARTER - Birth: 1845 Misc, Ohio - Father:
James CARTER - Mother: Eliza Mrs CARTER
The family corresponds to a family in the 1850 census
for Island Grove in Jasper County, Illinois. I
believe this John Carter could have been my great
grandfather. His age corresponds to the age of my
great grandfather in later censuses, and Island Grove
is not very far away from where the family of my great
grandmother, Frances Kibler, lived.
The IGI also has a marriage date of 1833 for James and
Eliza, which does not seem to correspond with the 1850
marriage date of James Carter and Eliza Evans in
Jasper County, IL. Possibly James married two women
named Eliza? Eliza Evans was his second wife. Record
of the marriage can be found in the Illinois Statewide
Marriage Index. Three Evans children were in the
Carter household in the 1850 census.
The source for the IGI file was "Patron sheets,
1969-1991", (source call #1553810) which is no help at
all, especially since I don't have access to an LDS
Family History library. However, it does tell me
that somebody somewhere must have researched the
family.
(You might see this more query than once. I'm
posting to various forums and lists.)
Thanks,
Nancy
