Here's a few Carter obits I have laying around. They're all from my Carter line,
except for Robert Finley Carter, and most are fairly recent so they may not help anyone
else. However, I thought I'd at least send them out & see what happens.
Bloomington, IL Pantagraph, April 1994: Edith Irene Carter, 83, of Colfax died at 7:54 AM
Thursday (April 21, 1994) at BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal. Her funeral will be
at 2 PM Sunday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax, the Rev. Stepanie Curran officiating.
Burial will be in Wiley Cemetery, Colfax. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Saturday at
the memorial home. She was born Feb. 16, 1911, at Colfax, the daughter of Luther and Neta
Johnson Wagoner. She married Homer Carter on April 24, 1929, in Lewistown. He died July
21, 1953. Survivors include two sons, George Carter Saybrook, and Duane Carter,
Bloomington; one daughter, Helen Andreae, Sibley; two brothers, Carl Wagoner, Bloomington,
and Harry Wagoner, Colfax; one sister, Leona Burk, Panacea, FL; eight grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren. Two grandsons preceded her in death. She was a lifelong
Colfax-area resident and a Colfax High School graduate. She was a member of Colfax
Christian Church and the Hustler Society of the church. She worked for Wichman's
Produce in Anchor for eight years; at the Holiday Inn in Bloomington for 10 years; and at
Octavia Manor Nursing Home, Colfax, for 14 years. Memorials may be made to her church.
Peoria, IL, Journal Star, Dec. 4, 1977: Mrs. Clifford J. (Mararet J.) Blankenship, 80, of
903 E. Jefferson St., died at 6:45 PM Friday at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, where she had
been a patient for 5 days. She was born in Elwood on March 31, 1897, a daughter of George
and Ida Metheney Carter. She married Mr. Blankenship in Peoria on April 17, 1937.
Surviving are her husband, 1 daughter, Mrs. John (Annabelle) Smay of Washington; 2
brothers, Lionel of Evanston, IL and Marvin of Downey, CA; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lola Furry of
Springfield, IL and Ms. Geraldine Carter of Bloomington; 3 grandchildren and several
nieces and nephews. 3 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Mrs. Blankenship had
resided in Washington 17 years. Services will be held at 11 AM tomorrow at St. Mark's
Lutheran Church in Washington. Dr. Francis W. Johnson will officiate and burial will be
in Springfield Cemetery in Peoria. Friends may call on White Funeral Home in Washington
from 7 to 9 tonight and at the church 1 hour before services tomorrow.
Bloomington IL Pantagraph, May 3, 1974: Lester L. Carter, 66, of 803 Four Seasons Road was
dead on arrival at 2:30 PM Thursday at Brokaw Hospital. Mr. Carter was a railway clerk for
the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad. He retired last May after 29 years of service. His
funeral will be Monday at 11 AM at Metzler Memorial Home, with the Rev. Samuel Buck
officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8:30 PM
Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Carter was born Jan. 30, 1908, in Colfax, a son of George
and Ida Carter. He married Hannah Hughes on June 27, 1932, in Bloomington. Surviving are
his wife; 2 sons, Carl N., Chicago, and Delmar L., Riverside, CA; 3 sisters, Miss
Geraldine Carter, 19 Country Club Place; Mrs. Margaret Blankenship, Washington, and Mrs.
Lola Furry, Springfield; 2 brothers, Marvin, Downey, CA, and Lionel, Evanston, and a
granddaughter. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. He was a member of Park
United Methodist Chruch, the Carl S. Martin Post American Legion, the Rebekah Lodge, the
Brotherhood of Railway-Airline and Steamship Clerks, the Odd Fellows Lodge and the McLean
Encampment Lodge. He was a veteran of Wold War II.
Bloomington IL Pantagraph, Oct. 24, 1995: David Duane Carter, 34, of Saybrook died at 8:55
AM Monday (Oct. 23, 1995) at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Death was attributed
to natural causes. He was taken to Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Saybrook.
Bloomington IL Pantagraph, June 6, 1946: Robert Finley Carter, 76, formerly of Gilman,
died at his home in Cresent City at 9:30 AM, Tuesday. He had been in ill health for
several years. The body will be brought to the Riley funeral home in Gilman where services
will be held at 1 PM, Friday. Burial will be in the Onarga Cemetery. He was born in
Chariton, IA, Oct. 1, 1859, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Carter. For a number of years
he lived in Gilman where he was the driver of an oil truck. He moved from Gilman to
Cresent City about 4 years ago. Survivors are his wife Alice Ziear Carter, Cresent City
and the following children: Virgill Glenn, St. Charles: Floyd, Cresent City: Kenneth Le
Roy, Kankakee: Mrs. Dorothy Gercken, Onarga: Robert C., Ocean Park, CA. He is also
survived by a brother and sister, E.G. Carter, Columbus, NB and Mrs. Hattie Elmore, Terre
Haute, IN.
Bloomington IL Pantagraph, July 21, 1953: Homer M. Carter, 51, died of a heart attack
about 4:30 PM Monday while working at the Farmers Elevator in Anchor. He was brought to
the Easton Funeral Home where funeral arrangements are being made. Mr. Carter was born
March 9, 1902 near here, a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Carter. He married Miss Irene
Wagoner of Colfax, April 24, 1929 at Lewiston. Mr. Carter had been an employee of the Farm
Elevator for nearly 12 years. In 1951 he recieved a bronze plaque in honor of 10 years of
service from the elevator. Surviving are his wife, 2 sons George and Duane: a daughter,
Miss Helen, all at home: his mother: 4 brothers, Lester, Cooksville: Marvin, L.A.: Lionel,
Evanston: Loren, Anchor: 3 sisters, Mrs. Margarette Blankenship, Colfax: Mrs. Lola
Bendschider and Miss Geraldine, Bloomington. His Father and 1 sister preceede him in
death. Mr. Carter was a member of the Christian Church.
