Jim,
Thank you for responding so promptly. I have been researching my great grand
father, John William Carter b:10/20/1843 Rockingham Co, NC and d:1/3/1920
Smyth Co, VA. Marriage records show his parents as James and Parthenia
Carter. I have no information on the Landon Carter family in Carter Co, TN.
We have no information on James Carter and Parthenia ???. We have focused
our search in North Carolina so far. I recently found reference to Carter
Co, TN while researching one of the Carter maternal lines. I thought this
might answer the question how they left Rockingham Co, NC and migrated to
Scott Co, VA. There could have been a connection to Carter Co, TN. John
William Carter's father, James Carter, was suppose to have been killed in
the Civil War. John William Carter may have migrated to Carter Co before
going to Scott Co, VA, where he married and settled. When I reviewed the
census records in the Scott Co, VA court house there were several Landon
Carters. It would appear there was a lot of movement between the two
counties.
I don't know that my family tree is connected to the Landon Carter tree, but
I was hoping for a connection to a Carter family in Tennessee. Do the names
James and Parthenia Carter appear anywhere in those records with a son, John
William Carter?

I am researching Landon B. Carter of Elizabethtown Carter County, Tenn.
This
was in the 1790 to 1820 time period. Have you any information on this
family?
