Subject: [CARTER] What I have learned about names......
*Just a thought to share. I have researched All the families of mine and
my husbands grandparents....and a few great ....
When I first started, I researched my Mom's parents families ..Benitez
and Servideo. Well names were a mess there until we had learned how to
read them...not so much with the Servideo side ( Itallian) as with the
Benitez side ( Cuban/Spanish)
example: I was given the name Tammy Annette Carter when I was
born.....If I had been born back in the early 1900's and even earlier, I
would have been named........Tammy Annette Carter Y Benitez. The Benitez
tells that my Mothers maiden name was Benitez. I thought that was kind
of cool.
Then I have also researched the Glines, Davis', and Olesons in
Wisconsin. The earlier settlers came from Norway and they had a
completely different way of names. My husbands Great Grandfather was
John Oleson Skare. His last name was really Oleson...son of Ole and the
Skare part of his name was because eh lived on or owned the Skare
Farm. My Husbands Great Great Grandmother's maiden name was Margit
Kittilsdotter Runningen......She was Kittils daughter...and runningen
was the farm they lived on. Oh and if they moved from farm to farm,
thier last name would change......John has about 5 names as he did live
on about 5 farms.
