Lynn's reference to books on CARTER lineages brings up the reminder of a
good source for resources on family books, Heritage Quest. For anyone not
familiar with it, they have a great deal of books that copyrights have
expired and the books are available for reading or downloading online. HQ is
available through many public library websites with the use of one's library
card for home access. One of the books I just found available there is
"Giles Carter of Virginia, genealogical memoir", by William H. Carter,
which has an extended lineage on his descendants that some of you may be
interested on.
Books can be found there by doing a Search under their BOOKS database,
keying in the name of the family you want.

Subject: [CARTER] History of Carter Family
Back in March 1997, Tim CARTER, gave us the name of a good resource
book of the CARTER Families which included many unrelated CARTER lines.
Following are some libraries where, at that time, it could be found.
Allen County Public Library - Fort Wayne, Indiana
Roanoke City Public Library - Roanoke, VA
State Historical Society of Wisconsin - Madison, Wisconsin
University of Virginia - Charlottesville, VA
Library of Congress - Washington, DC
It appears the book is for in-house reference only; however, they may
be willing to photocopy the information you desire. Contact your local
library Interlibrary Loan Dept or write directly to one of the listed
libraries. If you are fortunate enough to be in the library locations
mentioned you have it made.
The book is: A HISTORY OF THE CARTER FAMILY
