Halleluia!! I may finally have found a connection with my Joseph Henry
Carter of Cass County MO!! Here is my old post. Note that the census
father is J.J. Carter, or on death certificate of James William is said to
be Joseph Henry Carter. I beleive the assessor was the son, or brother of
James William, my great grandfather. I have notes that he Joseph Jr. died
intestate.
J. J. or Joseph Henry Carter of Cass Co, MO, b in VA or IA.
Death Cert, my ggrandfather, James William Carter, b. Aug 2 1853, MO, d.
July 25, 1924, Tx. Parents: Joseph Henry Carter b. IA or VA (hard to read)
Jules/Julia? Luckett, b. MO. (Death certificates often have mistakes in
names when the next of kin is a nephew, in this case. Julia's name may be a
mistake. I have found evidence of Lucketts from KY and MD being involved
with Simpsons of KY and MD and coming to MO.)

I wonder if Julia/Juliet had more than one marriage or it was simply a
mistake on the death record?
Thank you for your help.

William Carter was the first sheriff of Bradley County Tennessee taking
office in 1836 and dying possibly in Oct of 1837. He may possibly have
had a brother named Joseph H. Carter.
In 1852, the sons (James, Charles, and William Landon) took their mother
to MO to live. The daughter Elizabeth was already married by that time
and living in Bradley Co., TN. Joseph H. Carter was in Cass County, MO
as an assessor in 1853 when the Carters arrived there according to the
obituary for William Landon Carter. Also according to the obituary,
Joseph was their uncle, so possibly a brother to William Carter.
Would love to have any information on who the father of William Carter
is, his birthplace, etc. Ruth according to the 1850 census gave her
birthplace as NC, her father's as Scotland and her mother's as England.
