Hi,
Sorry about that: Captain Thomas Carter was married to Katherine Dale, not
Diana.

Subject: [CARTER-L] Carters Merry and William..Barbara dau. of Wm. and Sarah
to Nelson County
I'm wondering if the Merry Carter is connected in some way to
the
following Wm. Carter family...
My eldest Carter is Wm. From Fauquier County VA. He owned land in
Fauquier, Montogomery and Jefferson County ( I do hope I have all this
right, as I have been struggling with it and the information on his
son-in-law Wm. Peake all morning). It appears that Wm. died sometime
after 1801 when the last deed is found on him in Virginia. In his
wife's will (proved 1786 in Prince William, VA), the children listed by
her are:
Elisha Muse
George & Richard Carter
Elizabeth Summers
Barbary Peak
Jimimah Williams Frances Cotrel (looks like she was married as much as
her mother)
John Thorn
Sarah, has been called the much married...Sarah Muse Thorne Wilson Carter.
The children I have listed for her are:
Elizabeth
Elisha
George
Richard
John
Frances
Barbary
Jimimah
Barbara Carter who married Wm. Peake (my confusing line, as Wm. also
came from VA and owned much property there)
In the only will I have seen of Wm. Carter, he calls his wife Eleanor,
so I doubt that would be the one married to much married Sarah.
In the Phillip's history, there is a Mesheck Carter
Deposition 1811 that includes besides him, Wm. Pope, James Guthrie,
Jacob VanMeter, John Tuell, James Doughtery, Samuel Haycraft, David
Standiford, James Pursell, George Pmery, James Stevenson (I'm wondering
if this is the same that my McLain line meets up with through the
Stallings and Sweeneys), Adam Shepard, Charles Whitaker, Squire Boone,
Leven Cooper, James McCawley, James Patten, James Welsh and three
Phillips brothers, to attest about the ownership of Phillips' Spring.
Meshack is listed in the Tithables here:
1785
Joseph Barnet - on all the southern waters of Roling and Beach Forks
westwardly of the waters of Hardin's Creek. Total Thithables - 166)
(1. No of Whites, 2. No. of White tithables, 3. Tithable negros, 4.
Negros under 16.)
Mashack Carter 7-2 Abednego is listed in the same only
seperate from Meshack...he is actually closer to the Athentons here...
1787
Atkerson Hill - Pottingers and Beans Company
"A list of Ththables for the year 1787 for the bonds of Pottingers &
Banes Old Companies."
(Probably in SouthWestern Nelson and adjoining Hardin Counties)
Masheck Carter
Joseph Carter 2
Abednego Carter 1
Other Carters in Tithables:
1785
District of Rolling & Beach Fork for Tithables - 1785
(James Rodgers -"on all the waters north of the Rolling and Beach Forks
up to the mouth of Buffalo Creek and its water." Total Tithables - 126)
(1.Thithables, 2. Number of Males, 3. Females, 4. Number of Black males
over, 5. Femailes.)
Shadrach Carter
James Carter 2-3-3
Niclos Carter 1-1-1
1786
James Rogers - from the mouth of the Rolling Fork up Salt River ot the
County Road, then with the County Road to the Eastern branch of Buffalo
Creek and down to the mouth and down the Beech Fork to the mouth and
down the Rolling Fork to the mouth.
Shadrack Carter
James Carter 2
Nicholas Carter 1
If anyone has relations to the above mentioned Carters, I'd love to know
what they are and how they relate.
Was Barbara the only Carter of this line to come to Nelson County, KY?
To further my study, all I have are Peakes, as my line comes from
Barbara Carter married to Wm. Peake. If anyone has information on the
lines of the other Carter children, children of Wm. and the much married
Sarah, Elizabeth, Elisha, George, Richard, John, Frances, Barbary, and
Jimimah, I'd be most interested and greatful to have it.
