I seriously doubt that there's any family connection,
but there are similarities.
My g.g grandfather was also James CARTER. He was born
about 1800 in Kentucky, probably Montgomery County.
I'm not sure, but I think his father's name was
Solomon. James moved to Vermillion County, Indiana and
then to Jasper County, Illinois.
His son John (my great grandfather) moved to Newton
County MO a year or so before 1880. Newton Co. MO is
right next to Jasper Co. MO.
John died in Newton Co. in 1881. His widow, Frances
Carter, married William BALDRIDGE in 1885 in Jasper
Cointy, Missouri.
Frances had a son, officially named James CARTER, born
in 1885 or 1886. (Obviously James wasn't actually a
Carter.) According to the census, James was born in
Arkansas. I'm guessing Benton Co.

I have been seeing references to CARTERs in Missouri
and am such a descendant. My GG Grandfather was
James CARTER, who was born on 28 June 1791 in VA,
moved to OHIO, then to INDIANA and finally arrived
in MISSOURI ~1840/42. He was married to Sarah Jane
MEYERS. One of their daughters was Julina (my G
Grandmother) who married Jonathan RUSK and one of
their daughters was Gennette (my grandmother) who
married Elisha John SANDY. Am curious if there's
any connection to the "other" CARTERs in Missouri.
