These names are interesting, but I have little but coincidence to contribute.
Levi Carter b ~1790 m Elizabeth Judd about 1815 in KY. Levi Carter is probably originally
from
Loudoun Co VA and enlisted in the army there in 1812, and later apparently
enlisted in another militia or army "call up" in KY about 1813. LC and family
seem to have lived for a time in KY, then in Loudoun Co VA, then in
Guernsey Co OH (not far from Muskingum - 1830 - 1840's), then in Grant Co IN (before
1850).
Elizabeth and Levi die in the early 1870's there. Their farm was on the northern
border
of Grant Co with Huntington Co IN, in Washington Twp.
Levi Carter has a son James Carter who disappears after 1850 but is mentioned
in his mother's will in 1872. They had several daughters also.
Most of their children appear to have been born in the 1820's, but Nancy (see below)
was born about 1815, and Elizabeth about 1839 (!).
Levi Carter's will mentions "my share of David Carter's estate" or
words to that
effect. I have never been able to figure out who this David Carter was or what
the connection is. I know of a David Carter who appears in Muskingum Co records
and wondered if that person might be the named David Carter. There is also
a land entry in Grant Co IN in the 1830's, I think, for a David Carter but
I have so far been unable to track that link down.
Levi & Elizabeth's daughters - Mary m Levi WILLIAMS (Grant Co IN), Nancy m George
Washington
HELM (Huntington IN) [not my line, but close], Sarah m John HEFNER (Huntington Co IN),
Elizabeth m Eli BEEKMAN (both counties).
The 1860 census in Grant Co shows them living with an 8 yr old girl, Delilah SKILLMAN
(sp?).
I have no idea who this girl is, but want to draw attention to the name.
I guess it would be useful for me even to eliminate the David Carter you mention
from my search.
Thanks,
Michael Helm

Subject: [CARTER] Carters in Muskingum County, Ohio
I am searching for more information on the James Carter who supposedly
married Mary Miller, 8 Aug 1822 in Muskingum County, Ohio....
I think it is possible that George, James and David Carter left Muskingum
County and were living in Range Township, Madison County, Ohio for the 1830
census....

Hello,
I do not know of any connection between the Carters you mentioned and the
ones in Madison County, Ohio, but I am just beginning to research this
family.
According to a family tree submitted to the Ancestry World Tree Project,
David F. Carter, son of William Carter and Elizabeth Severe, was born 25 Apr
1803 and died about 1883 in Marion County, Ohio. The household of the David
Carter in Range Township, Madison County, Ohio in 1830 included: one male
20-30, one male 50-60 and one female 70-80. Living next to him were George
and James Carter. Some of James' descendants were still in Madison County in
the 1900's, but I do not know what became of him.
Sorry I could not be of more help.
Marjean
