I didn't know if you looked at the complete 1880 census or not,
anyway here he is with his family.

Subject: [CARTER-L] James B. Carter and his Father Green Carter
Folks,
I am new to this list, and after 30 years of searching have just found
my paternal line. My maiden name was an alias and should have been
CARTER! Thanks to the LDS 1880 new census index, I now have many new
lines to research. To that end, I am asking for help. This is what I
know right now.
James B. Carter was born in Oct 1836 in Cumberland County, KY, the s/o
GREEN CARTER and NANNIE BROWN. Green was a Methodist minister and they
moved around a lot. James, at the age of 76 years, wrote his life
story. But he gave very little information for names, dates and
places. Most of his story was about his Civil War Service, in which he
went into great detail. I know that he had brothers and sisters but do
not know their names. Green was dead before the 1850 Census. At some
point the family moved to Warrick Co, IN and lived there for several
years. At some point James moved to Shenandoah Page Co, IA. One of his
sons was Albert Smith Carter.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you for any help you can give
me. meg
