Hi Mary,
Most of my Mother's people came out of Tishimingo/Itawamba Counties in Mississippi/
Lowndes/Lauderdale in Alabama...
Her surnames: Belue, Carter, Holley, Herring, Martin, Samples
Did you have a family headed by a woman named Nancy Carter born est 1806, who appears to
be widowed sometime between 1840 and 1850 with these children: John H. who married a
Meeks. He was born in Alabama wuth they were in Montgomery MS and might have first been in
Robeson NC, Mary Ann who married a Greenlee and was in Arkansas, Catherine,
Martha who married James Herring and moved to Arkansas, Miranda, and Daniel. I think
some of them moved on to Texas, also and some went back to Mississippi from ARkansas
around Yell County.
It is a brick wall that is confusing to me. I think Nancy might also have been a Herring
before she married the Carter but I could be wrong on that one. It is just a hunch I have
from my research since she was living near a John Herring at one time. That John had a
sister namd Nancy who might have been a twin to her. I am thinking her son John could have
been named for him while son Daniel could have been named for a suspect husband Daniel
Carter. But I don't know any of that to be correct. Just my trying to research and
make sense of it all...
Thanks,
Polly
