Holly, My ancestors came from the Mud Creek area of Hall/Habersham counties, have some
info on some of them, just wondering if we might be of the same clan. Lonnie Carter

My mother grew up being told that she was part Seminole and part Cherokee. I have figured
it
was in the Carter line because I haven't found it anywhere else. Except that they all
came out of
Mississippi and Alabama and my Holley and Martin lines really haven't been traced
either.
Would you know what type Indian is in your Carter people?
In the 25+ years I have been doing family tree research I have heard many, many stories
about people being told they were from Native American ancestors. (Including both sides of
my own family.) But when people do the DNA testing, they find they are of European
ancestry. So, unless you have actual historical documentation or DNA test results showing
Native American ancestry, I recommend taking these family oral tradition stories with a
grain of salt. I think for a time in the early part of the 20th Century it was
"fashionable" and exotic to claim Native American ancestry and stories got
fabricated and handed down to children who didn't know that the stories were not
true.
